Slow Start Dooms Spartans at Hanover

HANOVER, Ind. – The Manchester University women's basketball team traveled to Hanover College as play against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponents continued on Saturday, January 16.

Playing one another for the third time in a week, Saturday's game was the first road contest against the Panthers during this short, three-game series.

The host Panthers built an early double-digit lead in the game's opening minutes, from which the Black & Gold were unable to recover from. Hanover topped the Spartans by a final score of 69-52 on Saturday.

The Panthers shot 8-19 from the field in the opening quarter, good enough for a 42.1% clip. HC also went a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line as the Panthers opened up a 23-9 lead through one quarter of action.

The Spartans were held to 4-11 (36.4%) shooting in the first quarter and went 0-7 from beyond the three-point arc through the game's first 10 minutes. MU also committed seven turnovers in the opening frame.

Hanover maintained their double-digit advantage through the second quarter, building as much as a 16-point lead at 27-11. HC led 38-25 at the break.

Manchester's defense held the host Panthers to just 12 points in the third quarter, however, the Panthers' defense was equally as stout, limiting the Black & Gold offense to just nine points in the third frame.

Hanover built its largest lead of 20 points with just over three minutes left in regulation.

Sophomore Hannah Lindsey (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) led Manchester with 14 points in 23 minutes off the bench on Saturday afternoon. Lindsey grabbed six rebounds and knocked down three three-pointers. Tiara Jackson (East Chicago, Ind./Central) posted her third double-double of the year after scoring 11 points and hauling in a team-high 10 rebounds.

Hanover had three players score in double figures. Led by Savannah Courtney's 15 points, Addie Garnder chipped in 13 points, while Callie Wilder posted a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Manchester is scheduled to travel to rival Anderson on Friday, January 22 for a 7 p.m. contest.

Hanover will look to remain undefeated when it travels to Rose-Hulman on Thursday, January 21.
