CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Mount St. Joseph University Lions used a trio of goals in the opening 17 minutes of Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer match to push past the visiting Spartans.
Manchester was unable to overcome the initial blitz as the Spartans' saw their four-game win streak come to an end. MSJ took Saturday's contest by a final score of 4-2.
The Lions netted goals in the 6
th, 14
th, and 17
th minutes to begin the game.
Manchester would get on the scoreboard in the 25
th minute following a goal from
Julian Keough (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike). Keough has scored in back-to-back contests.
Cory Mitchell (Maitland, Fla./Winter Park) picked up an assist on the Keough goal.
The Black & Gold scored less than a minute into the second half as
Chris Gerken (Huntertown, Ind./Carroll) drew Manchester to within a score at 3-2.
MSJ answered right back with a goal in the 52
nd minute. Taidan Fox netted his second goal of the match to give the Lions some breathing room. The result would stand as the Spartans were kept off the scoreboard for the remainder of the match.
Manchester (4-5-1, 1-1 HCAC) will look to bounce back on Wednesday when it travels to Defiance College. Match time against the Yellow Jackets is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
