NORTH MANCHESTER-Ind. – The Manchester University football and soccer teams dedicated their home contests on Saturday afternoon to recent graduate Tyler Mann. Tyler, affectionately called T-Mann, was an integral part of the Spartan football family, and is battling Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. The football and soccer teams wore orange wristbands and tape, and orange decor was added to Spartan Stadium and Good Field. Orange represents this type of cancer.
Following kickoff, the Spartans would battle the Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action. RHIT would claim Saturday's contest by a final score of 57-14.
Rose-Hulman's offense was hard to slow on Saturday as the Fightin' Engineers total 486 yards of offense. RHIT quarterback Andrew Dion finished 15-21 for 292 yards and 6 touchdowns. Four different receivers caught at least 1 touchdown in Saturday's game.
The Spartans finished with 246 yards of offense, including 182 yards on the ground.
Carter Campassi (Cicero, Ind./Hamilton Heights) led Manchester with 61 yards rushing.
David Smith (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and
Jalen Love (Avon, Ind./Avon) added 50 and 47 yards rushing, respectively.
Manchester's first score of the game was courtesy of a
Caremlo Gurley (Birmingham, Ala./Gardendale) 85-yard kickoff return that put the Black and Gold on the board in the 2
nd quarter. For the Spartans' other score of the game,
Carter Campassi connected with
Darren Lathrop (Lafayette, Ind./McCutcheon) for an 11-yard touchdown pass in the 4
th quarter.
Manchester (2-5, 2-2HCAC) will travel to Hanover College on Saturday October 30. Game time between the Spartans and Panthers is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
Rose-Hulman (5-2,4-0 HCAC) will take on Bluffton University at home on Saturday October 30 at 1:30 p.m.
