NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Manchester University women's soccer team secured its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win of the season after defeating the Defiance College Yellow Jackets by a final score of 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Good Field.
Manchester blitzed the Yellow Jackets early and often – netting their of its four goals in the first 12 minutes of the game.
Alex Parr (Russiaville, Ind./Western) got the Black & Gold offense rolling with a goal just 20 seconds into the match.
Jayden Murray (Delphi, Ind./Rossville Consolidated) followed with goals in the 5
th and 12
th minutes.
Peyton Horn (Crown Point, Ind./Andrean) collected an assist on the second Murray goal.
Manchester would add on a fourth goal in the 70
th minute as first-year
Elaina Halferty (Columbia City, Ind./Columbia City) scored her first career collegiate goal.
The Spartans outshot Defiance 18-2 on the afternoon. The Black & Gold put 15 shots on goal. MU also held a 4-0 advantage on corner kicks taken.
Both
Becca Colbert (Porter, Ind./Chesterton) and
Cate Bennett (Hartford City, Ind./Blackford) combined to keep a clean sheet in goal.
Manchester (2-7, 1-2 HCAC) snapped a six-game skid with the win on Wednesday. The Spartans will travel to Hanover College on Saturday October 9 for a 1 p.m. meeting with the Panthers.
Defiance fell to 2-7, 0-3 HCAC following the loss.
Noteworthy: The Black & Gold also took a moment prior to Wednesday's match to dedicate the game to those affected by breast cancer. October is national Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
