NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Manchester University men's soccer team won its fourth consecutive game on Wednesday night, defeating the Franklin College Grizzlies by a final score of 2-1 in Spartan Stadium.
The Black & Gold jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 20
th minute of the contest. Sophomore
Harley Kruschwitz (Manchester, Ind./North Manchester) intercepted a pass by the Franklin keeper and was able to finish a left-footed strike for his team-leading eighth goal of the season.
Manchester led 1-0 at halftime.
In the second half, the Spartans went ahead 2-0 in the 74
th minute. Sophomore
Noah Black (Swayzee, Ind./Mississinewa) sent a corner kick in from the far side that was headed in by fellow sophomore
Julian Keough (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike). It was Keough's first goal of the season.
Franklin pressed the Spartans late in Wednesday's contest, netting a header off a corner kick of their own in the 87
th minute.
Manchester held a 17-4 advantage in shots taken on Wednesday night. The Black & Gold also held a 16-4 advantage in corner kicks taken.
Manchester improved to 4-4-1, 1-0 HCAC with the win. Franklin dropped to 2-6, 0-1 HCAC. The Spartans will travel to Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati, Ohio on Saturday October 2 for a 3:30 p.m. meeting with the Lions.
