Manchester Sweep the Hornets 3-0

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - Manchester volleyball team swept the Kalamazoo Hornets this evening with a 3-0 shutout. This marks their first home win of the season.

The Spartans jumped early to gain the lead against the Hornets, outscoring them 5-2 to begin the match.  Manchester's team offense drove them to win the first match 25-20.  In the second match, Manchester remained victorious and took the set 25-12.  Helaina Walters (Marion, Ind., Eastbrook) contributed heavily behind the service line in the second set, giving Manchester momentum with a 7-0 scoring run.  In a hard-fought third match for both teams, Manchester remained on top and won the match 25-21.  

Avery Ball (Decatur, Ind., Belmont) led the Spartans in offense with 10 kills and 5 digs. Sophomore Carley Camp (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) contributed with 4 kills and 7 blocks on the evening.  Carley Ripberger (Tipton, Ind./Tipton) chipped in with 12 assists and 7 digs to elevate the Spartans to the win.  

A big night for blocks, as Camp, Ball, Jessica Tarr (Fort Wayne, Ind., Snider), Halle Planck (Gas City, Ind., Mississinewa), Joy Maze (Greenwood, Ind., Greenwood Community), and Reese Czarniecki (Chesterton, Ind., Chesterton) tallied a total 18. 

The Spartans advance to 5-5 on the season.  Manchester will be back in action this Friday, September 16th, as they take on the Red Hawks of Indiana Northwest at 4 pm in the Manchester Invitational.
