NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - Manchester Volleyball hosted and competed in the Manchester Invitational over the weekend.

The Spartans faced Indiana University Northwest and Governors State University on Friday, then competed against Dominican University and Franklin College on Saturday. Saint Mary's was also in attendance at the Invitational.

Manchester went into four sets with the Red Hawks, but ultimately lost the match 3-1.
Helaina Walters (Marion, Ind., Eastbrook), Rachael Ressler (Tipton, Ind., Tipton), and Sara Shultz (Churubusco, Ind., East Noble) led the Spartan's defense with 30 digs, while Joy Maze (Greenwood, Ind., Greenwood Community), Avery Ball (Decatur, Ind., Belmont), and Carley Camp (Logansport, Ind., Logansport) led the offense with 27 combined kills. Carly Ripberger (Tipton, Ind., Tipton) chipped in with 29 assists.

Later in the evening, Manchester faced Governors State and took the match in 5 sets.  Governors State took the first set 25-18, then Manchester won the second set 25-23.  The third set was a nail-biter as Governors State won the third match with a score 28-26.  The Spartans succeeded and won the next two sets 25-20 and 15-11, respectively.
Jessica Tarr (Fort Wayne, Ind., Snider) set the Spartans up with 42 assists, which allowed Camp, Halle Planck (Gas City, Ind., Mississinewa), and Paige Snider (Auburn, Ind., DeKalb)) to lead the offense with 34 kills on the match. Walters, Ressler, and Ball led the Spartans in digs.

On day two of the invitational, Manchester began gameplay against Dominican.  The match went into four sets, with Manchester remaining victorious winning the match 3-1. To complete the weekend, Manchester faced conference opponent, Franklin College, in a non-conference match.  Manchester won 3-1 against the Grizz.  The Spartans had 13 aces in the match, which outweighed the 4 that Franklin received. Ball was the leader in aces, recording 7, while Carley Camp contributed to the win with blocks. Camp recorded 7 blocks, while Maze had 4 and Snider had 2.  The Spartans wrapped up the weekend with three wins and one loss.
