Spartans Host Tri-Match

North Manchester, Ind. – The Spartans played host to a 3-way match on Saturday against conference foe Franklin College and Concordia University Ann Arbor.
 
In the morning match, the Spartans dropped a narrow 4-5 decision to the visiting Grizzlies. In doubles action, the pairing of Eva Bazzoni (Wabash, Ind., Manchester) and Evelyn Minton (Clarksville, Ind., Jeffersonville) won 8-3 at the first position. The second doubles pairing of Anna Hollingsworth (New Castle, Ind., Blue River Valley) and Ella Knight (Leesburg, Ind., Kalamazoo) and the third flight of Natalie Kotlin (Lowell, Ind., Lowell) and Courtney Trusty (North Judson, Ind./HS) each dropped match tiebreaks 7-8 (3), and 7-8 (6) respectively.
 
In singles play against the Grizzlies, MU won the first three singles contests. Knight and Bazzoni each picked up 6-0, 6-1 wins at 1- and 2- singles, while Minton won 7-6, 6-2. The match came down to the 4-singles match. Trusty fought back, but ultimately fell in three sets 5-7, 7-6 (3), 3-6.
 
In the afternoon contest with Concordia University, the Spartans claimed a 7-2 team victory. In doubles, the Bazzoni/Minton pair picked up a 8-3 decision at 1 doubles, while Knight/Hollingsworth nabbed an 8-0 win at the second position. In singles, the Spartans won points at 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 singles. Avin Demaso (South Bend, Ind., Riley) won a tough match at 5 singles, fighting back to take the contest in a match tiebreak 2-6, 6-4, [10-5].
 
The Spartans next host Alma College at the MU Tennis Courts on Sunday with a 1 PM start.
