TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Manchester University indoor track and field teams competed in the Friday Night Spikes Opener hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Friday, January 13. Washington University - St. Louis was the third team competing in the meet.
2023 Friday Night Spikes Opener Results
The Spartans kicked off the 2023 season with a new school record and four first place finishes during Friday's event. Additionally, five new top-10 marks were set for the Black and Gold.
Gabe Hendricks (Fort Wayne, Ind., Bishop Luers) set a new Manchester University record in the weight throw. He took first place in the event with a distance of 16.32 meters, breaking the previous school record by 0.64 meters.
Hendricks also placed second in the shot put event with a distance of 15.22, a new personal best and top-10 mark.
Ben Villafuerte (Angola, Ind., Angola) took first place in shot put with a distance of 15.42 meters, a new top-10 mark and personal best for the senior.
Enrique Salazar (Plymouth, Ind., Plymouth) took first place in the 3,000 meter run in a time of 8:28.75.
Connor Havens (LaPorte, Ind., LaPorte) finished the 3,000 meter run in a time of 8:50.65, good enough for fifth place and a new top-10 mark for MU.
Tristen Bronaugh (Crawfordsville, Ind., Crawfordsville) also set a new top-10 mark in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.25 seconds.
Corbin Till (Fort Wayne, Ind., Bishop Dwenger) also set a new top-10 mark in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.16 seconds.
Carley Camp (Logansport, Ind., Logansport) finished weight throw in first place with a distance of 14.02 meters, a new Manchester top-10 mark.
Other podium finishes for the men's team:
- Duriel Moss Jr. (Homestead, Fla., Christopher Columbus) finished third in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.14 seconds.
- Gavin Byerly (Huntington, Ind., Huntington North) placed second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:03.92.
- Brenden Oden (New Carlisle, Ind., New Prairie) took third place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:04.79.
- Gentry Oliver (Lafayette, Ind., McCutcheon) had a third place finished in the long jump with a distance of 6.22 meters.
Up next, the Manchester indoor track and field teams are scheduled to compete in the Larry Cole Friday Night Invite hosted by Ohio Northern on January 20. Meet time is slated for 5:00 p.m.
