CHICAGO, Ill. - The Manchester University swimming and diving teams traveled to Chicago to compete in the Illinois Tech Tri-Meet on Saturday, January 14. The Spartans competed against host Illinois Institute of Technology and North Central College.
The men's swimming and diving team went 1-1 on the day. The Black and Gold defeated North Central College 151-22 and lost to Illinois Institute of Technology 164-53.
The 200 yard medley relay team consisting of
Colten Schulte (Huntington, Ind., Huntington North),
Jacob Stauffer (Elkhart, Ind., Concord),
Michael DeBartolo (Elkhart, Ind., Concord), and
Hung Tran (Franklin Township, Ind., Franklin Central) took third place with a time of 1:44.85, a new Manchester top-10 mark.
DeBartolo also set a new Manchester top-10 mark in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:19.19, good enough for second place during Saturday's meet.
Other podium finishes for the Spartans:
- Spencer Harrison (Tipton, Ind., Tipton) took second place in the 1,000-yard freestyle event with a time of 11:55.09.
- Parker York (Roann, Ind., Manchester) finished the 50-yard freestyle in second place with a time of 23.12.
- York also took second place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.55.
- DeBartolo finished the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:09.49, good enough for third place.
- Takoda Stone (Lakeville, Ind., Mishawaka) finished second in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 201.90.
- Schulte swam a 58.07 100-yard backstroke, good enough for second place.
- The 200 yard freestyle relay team consisting of Logan Davis (Elkhart, Ind., Elkhart), Payton Elsrod (Centerville, Ind., Centerville), York, and Harrison took third place with a time of 1:37.38.
The Manchester swimming and diving teams will return to the pool on Saturday, January 21. The Spartans will travel to Bethel University to compete in the Bethel Tri-Meet. Event time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
