Another Record Falls During Strong Second Weekend for Indoor Track & Field

ADA, Ohio - The Manchester University indoor track and field teams competed in the Larry Cole Invitational hosted by Ohio Northern University on Friday, January 20. The Spartans competed against Ohio Northern, Adrian College, Bluffton University, Cedarville University, and Earlham College. 

Results 

Six new top-10 marks highlighted another strong week of performances by the Spartans. Additionally, another school record was set. 

Gabe Hendricks (Fort Wayne, Ind., Bishop Luers) finished in second place and broke the Manchester University record in the weight throw with a distance of 16.45 meters, beating the record previously set by Hendricks during last week's competition by 0.13 meters. Hendricks also set a new MU top-10 mark in the shot put event with a distance of 15.26 meters, good enough for third place at Friday's meet. 

Ben Villafuerte (Angola, Ind., Angola)set a new top-10 mark in the weight throw with a distance of 15.18 meters, placing fifth overall during the meet. 

Corbin Till (Fort Wayne, Ind., Bishop Dwenger), Tristen Bronaugh (Crawfordsville, Ind., Crawfordsville), Gentry Oliver (Lafayette, Ind., McCutcheon), and Mason Douglas (Howe, Ind., Lakeland)set a new top-10 time in the men's 4x200 relay race, crossing the finish line in first place in a time of 1:35.29. 

Oliver also set a new personal best and top-10 mark in the long jump with a distance of 6.51 meters. Oliver's distance was also good enough to finish in second place at Friday's competition. 

Connor Havens (LaPorte, Ind., LaPorte)ran his way to a new Manchester top-10 time in the men's 1 mile. Havens finished the event in second place with a time of 4:26.85. 

Carley Camp (Logansport, Ind., Logansport) set a new top-10 mark and placed third in the women's weight throw with a distance of 14.91 meters. Camp also won the women's shot put event with a distance of 12.61 meters. 

Additional podium finishes for the Spartans: 
Men 
  • Gabe Melvin (Jacksonville, Fla., Atlantic Coast)finished the 60 meter dash in second place with a time of 7.12 seconds. 
  • Enrique Salazar (Plymouth, Ind., Plymouth) took first in the 1 mile event with a time of 4:19.75. 
  • Villafuerte took second place in the shot put event with a distance of 15.41 meters. 
Women 
  • Hannah Brubaker (Goshen, Ind., NorthWood) finished the women's 3,000 meter event in second place, crossing the finish line in a time of 10:51.60. 
  • The 4x200 relay team consisting of Ceah Campbell (Tipton, Ind., Tipton) Zoe Lunduski (Chemung, NY., Waverly), Chaelinn Hutchins (Angola, Ind., Angola), and Grace Papazoglou (Commack, NY., Commack) took first place with a time of 2:01.76. Manchester's other 4x200 relay team consisting of Jaela Faulkner (Bourbon, Ind., Triton), Alaina Karkoff (Bradenton, Fla., Bayshore), Antonae Cofield (Hammond, Ind., Gavit), and Hilary Ernstes (Greensburg, Ind., Greensburg) took second in a time of 2:06.27.
  • Pipar Wade (Union Mills, Ind., South Central) finished the long jump event in the third place with a distance of 4.15 meters. 
The Black and Gold are scheduled to be off next weekend and will return to action at Anderson University on Saturday, February 4.
