NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Manchester men's soccer team took home a 4-0 victory against the Mount St. Joseph Lions while honoring their eight seniors on Senior Day on Saturday, October 21. The eight seniors honored on Saturday afternoon at Good Field were Matt Brown, Julian Keough, Cory Mitchell, Chris Gerken, Micah Fourman, Cayden Holley, Noah Black, and Matt Manngard.
The Spartans started the game with a goal and an assist from two seniors in the 14th minute of the game. Chris Gerken (Huntertown, Ind., Carroll) found Cory Mitchell (Maitland, Fla., Winter Park) on a long cross off a free kick in which Mitchell finished into the net. In the 20th minute, Harley Kruschwitz (North Manchester, Ind., Manchester) scored, giving the Spartans a 2-0 lead at halftime.
The score remained 2-0 until the 63rd minute, when Kruschwitz found the back of the net yet again, giving him 18 goals on the season. Mitchell assisted on Kruschwitz's second goal of the afternoon. Seven minutes later Noah Black (Swayzee, Ind., Mississinewa) hit a clean shot to the upper right corner of the goal off a penalty kick, giving Manchester their largest lead of the match at 4-0.
The Spartans remained undefeated, with an overall record of 10-0-6 and a conference record of 6-0-2. Manchester men's soccer will conclude the regular season with a home conference match against Bluffton University on Wednesday, October 25. Match time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Spartan Stadium. A win on Wednesday would guarantee the Spartans the top spot in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.
