NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - Manchester University rallied against the Fightin' Engineers of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology for a thrilling five-set victory on Saturday, October 21.
The Spartans dropped the first set on Saturday afternoon by a 25-19 final score but battled for a hard-fought 25-17 triumph in the second set. The Black and Gold took the third set 25-18; however, Rose-Hulman narrowly edged the Spartans 25-18 to take the fourth set. Manchester held on to take the fifth set by a final score of 15-8 to claim their fourth conference win of the season. The Spartans are now 14-7,4-1 HCAC.
Three Spartans reached doubled figures in kills against the Fightin' Engineers on Saturday night. Carley Camp (Logansport, Ind., Logansport) led with 14 kills and a .429 hitting percentage. Joy Maze (Greenwood, Ind., Greenwood Community) added 13 kills, while Avery Ball (Decatur, Ind., Belmont) finished with 12 kills. Ball also had four aces and 19 digs.
Emma Tone (Fort Wayne, Ind., Bishop Dwenger) posted a career high 29 assists during Saturday's contest. Alexa Kouskousakis (Rochester, Ind., Rochester Community) added 14 assists. Tiffany Watterson (Elkhart, Ind., Elkhart) led the Spartans with 26 digs. Lily Lichtenbarger (South Bend, Ind., New Prairie) tallied five block assists, while Camp and Maddi Smith (Kewanna, Ind., Caston) each had four blocks on Saturday afternoon.
Manchester volleyball will be back in action on Wednesday, October 25 as they host the Bluffton University Beavers in HCAC action. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. in Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.
