Swimming and Diving Honors Senior Class; Earns Wins Against Heidelberg on Saturday

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Manchester University men's and women's swimming & diving teams both defeated Heidelberg University during Senior Day at the Strauss-Peabody Aquatic Center on Saturday, October 28. Ashlynn Malloy (Mooresville, Ind., Mooresville) was honored during the senior day ceremonies prior to the start of Saturday's meet.

The men's team beat Heidelberg University with a final score of 146-42. The women came out on top against the Student Princes with a final score of 91-70. The Spartans had 18 first-place finishes on the day.

Highlights from the day included:

  • Stephanie Roman (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) set a new Manchester top-10 time in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing the event in first place with a time of 26.45. 
  • Taelynn Benish (Logansport, Ind., Logansport) finished the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:21.93, good enough for the seventh fastest time in school history.
  • Jaden Chin Hong (Trinidad and Tobago, Logansport) swam his way to a new top-10 mark in the 200 IM with a time of 2:16.31. Chin Hong also set a new top-10 mark in the 100-yard Breaststroke with a time if 1:03.60, good enough for first place on Saturday.
  • Payton Elsrod (Centerville, Ind., Centerville) set a new top-10 mark in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in second place in a time of 58.49.
  • Hung Tran (Franklin Township, Ind., Franklin Central) finished the 100-yard freestyle in first place with a time of 50.89, good enough for sixth best time in school history.
  • Michael DeBartolo (Elkhart, Ind., Concord) set a new top-10 time in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing the event in a time of 1:02.86.

The Manchester swimming teams will be back in the pool on Saturday, November first as they compete against Franklin College and Bluffton University in a dual meet hosted by Grizzlies at 1:00 p.m.
