Spartans Stymied by Rose-Hulman on Saturday

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Manchester football team was defeated by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday, October 7, falling to the Fightin' Engineers in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action by a final score of 44-7.

Rose-Hulman knocked in a 26-yard field goal in the first quarter for an early 3-0 advantage. The Fightin' Engineers then found the end zone with 9:59 on the clock to give Rose-Hulman the 10-0 lead. Manchester would answer, scoring a touchdown on a 1-yard run by Isaac Bodkins (Decatur, Ind., Bellmont). Aiden Beachy (Tuscola, Ill., Tuscola Community) would make the point after attempt to bring Manchester within three. Rose-Hulman would find the end zone three more times and kick two more field goals to take the 37-7 lead at halftime. 

Manchester's defensive held the Fightin' Engineers to just seven points in the second half of Saturday's contest, but Rose-Hulman would hold off the Spartans to take the 44-7 victory. 

For the game, Rose-Hulman tallied 441 total yards of offense, throwing for 199 yards, and rushing for 242 yards. Manchester put up 216 yards of total offense, throwing for 165 yards and rushing for 51 yards.

Jamaal Hubbard (Russelville, Ala., Russelville) finished with a team-high 14 tackles. He also had one interception in the third quarter. Javion Davis (Marion, Ind., Marion) added 10 total tackles on Saturday, while Dave Paul (Dearborn, Mich., Annapolis) and Devontay Moore (Indianapolis, Ind., North Central) each had nine tackles apiece. JW had the Spartans' first interception, also in the third quarter. 

Manchester (0-5, 0-2) will travel to Hanover College on Saturday, October 14 to take on the Panthers in conference action. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
