OLIVET, Mich. - The Manchester softball team swept the Olivet College Comets in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, March 30.
The Black & Gold earned a 10-3Â victory in the first game of the day before following with a 15-5 triumph in 5 innings in the second game on Thursday.
SPARTAN STATS
- An RBI single by first-year Alee Eaker (Lowell, Ind., Lowell) put the Spartans on the scoreboard in game one of Thursday's doubleheader. On the day, Eaker went 6-8 from the plate with 4 RBI and two runs scored. Â
- Julianne Gosnell (Amboy, Ind., Oak Hill) threw a complete game, allowing eight hits and striking out five batters in game one for the Black and Gold. Gosnell would earn her second collegiate victory in the pitching circle on Thursday.Â
- After Olivet took a 2-1 lead in the first two innings of game two of Thursday's contest, the Spartans grabbed the lead for good in the bottom of the third inning following an RBI double down the center field by Lainey Bonser (Muncie, Ind., Delta).Â
- Manchester would score 11 more runs in two innings to complete the sweep against the Comets.Â
- Five Spartans would collect extra base hits in game two, including two doubles by Lainey Bonser and Erin Singleton (Brownstown, Ind. , Brownstown Central).Â
- Sophomore Kaitlyn Carr (Valparaiso, Ind., Chesterton) picked up her sixth win of the season in the circle for the Black and Gold. Carr allowed four hits and two earned runs in three innings of work. Carr also had a successful day at the plate, hitting .625 on the day with two RBI and two runs scored.Â
- Makayla Harper (Frankfort, Ind., Frankfort) came in for relief for the Spartans in game two, giving up two hits in two innings pitched.Â
