Villafuerte and Camp Earn Spots at 2023 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced on Friday the participants in the 2023 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships.

For each men's individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition.  For each women's individual event contested, including the pentathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition.  For each relay event contested, the top 12 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition.

For Manchester, both senior Ben Villafuerte (Angola, Ind., Angola) and sophomore Carley Camp (Logansport, Ind., Logansport)) will represent Manchester at this year's indoor track and field national championships. Both Villafuerte and Camp will throw in the shot put. 

Villafuerte was named 2023 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Men's Most Outstanding Throw Athlete of the Year at the 2023 HCAC Indoor Championships. Villafuerte bested the competition with a throw of 16.45 meters, setting a new HCAC Championship Meet Record and Manchester school record. Villafuerte helped lead the Spartans to 135 team points and second place at the 2023 HCAC Indoor Championships. 

Camp was named the 2023 HCAC Women's Most Outstanding Throws Athlete of the Year. At the 2023 HCAC Indoor Championships, Camp took first place in shot put with a throw of 13.55 meters, setting a new HCAC Championship Meet Record and new a Manchester school record. At the Polar Bear Final Qualifier, Camp broke her own school record in the shot put with a throw of 13.77 meters. Camp's distance at the Polar Bear Qualifier also set a new all-time HCAC mark and put her 15th in the nation. Camp was named HCAC "Athlete of the Week" honors twice this indoor season for her efforts in both the shot put and the weight throw events. 

The championships will be held March 10-11 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama, with Birmingham-Southern College and the City of Birmingham serving as hosts.
