NEW ORLEANS, La. – Three Spartans have earned 2023 USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region honors, as announced by the USTFCCCA on Tuesday, March 7.
2023 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field All-Region
The all-region team is made up of the top five performances in various events over the season as achieved by the over 40 colleges and universities in the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region.
Sophomore thrower
Carley Camp (Logansport, Ind., Logansport) earned All-Great Lake Region honors for her performance this indoor season.
Camp set a new school record in the shot put with a new all-time Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) performance of 13.77 meters at the Polar Bear Final Qualifier over the weekend. Her distance also puts her first in the Great Lakes Region.
Camp was named 2023 HCAC Women's Most Outstanding Throws Athlete of the Year and will compete in the shot put at the 2023 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships on March 10-11 in Birmingham, Alabama.
Senior thrower
Gabe Hendricks (Fort Wayne, Ind., Bishop Luers) also earned All-Region honors.
Hendricks set a new Manchester top-10 mark in the men's shot put with a distance of 15.91 meters, putting him fifth in the Great Lakes Region.
Rounding out the All-Great Lakes Region honors for Manchester is fellow senior thrower
Ben Villafuerte (Angola, Ind., Angola). Villafuerte bested the competition at the 2023 HCAC Indoor Championships in the shot put with a throw of 16.45 meters, setting a new HCAC Championship Meet Record and Manchester school record. His throw in the shot put puts him second in the Great Lakes Region.
Villafuerte was named the 2023 HCAC Men's Most Outstanding Throws Athlete of the Year. He will also compete in the shot put at the 2023 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships on March 10-11 in Birmingham, Alabama.
