NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - Manchester softball hosted the Mount St. Joseph University Lions during Senior Day at the MU Softball Field on Saturday, April 29.
In between contests, the softball program took a moment to honor its senior class of
Lainey Bonser (Muncie, Ind., Delta) and
Hayley Demler (South Bend, Ind., Clay) with an on-field ceremony.
The visiting Lions took both games by final scores of 3-1 and 4-3 in extra innings.
SPARTAN STATS
- MSJ took an early 3-0 lead after the first two innings of the opening game on Saturday afternoon. Manchester sophomore Julianne Gosnell (Amboy, Ind., Oak Hill) scored the lone of the game for the Spartans in home half of the third inning, but the Lions would hang on to take game one 3-1.
- Down 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning of game two, the Spartans would score an unearned run to the tie the game at three runs apiece. After a runner was place on second base in the top of the eighth inning, the Lions would score more one run to take game two by a final score of 4-3.
- In game two, Izzy Dittmar (Warsaw, Ind., Warsaw Community) went 2-3 at the plate with one run scored and an extra base hit.
- On the day, Sabrina Leonard (Fillmore, Ind. , South Putnam) went 2-6 at the plate for the Spartans. Leonard also had two stolen bases during Saturday's doubleheader.
- Kaitlyn Carr (Valparaiso, Ind., Chesterton) pitched 12.0 innings for the Black and Gold on Saturday, allowing just four hits with two earned runs and one strikeout. Carr also had a successful day the plate on Saturday, finishing the weekend with a .800 batting average.

- The Black and Gold will travel to the University of Saint Mary's for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, May 2.
