Football Drops Non-Conference Matchup Against Greenville

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Spartans fell in their last non-conference matchup of the season against the visiting Greenville Panthers by a final score of 59-7 on Saturday, September 16.

Manchester scored first, putting six points on the scoreboard with 13:37 left on the clock in the first quarter. A 79 yard pass from Trevor O'Brien II (Vero Beach, Fla., Vero Beach) to Duriel Moss Jr. (Homestead, Fla., Christopher Columbus) and a made extra-point attempt by Aiden Beachy (Tuscola, Ill., Tuscola Community) gave the Spartans the 7-0 lead to start Saturday's contest. 

Greenville would answer with a short pass from Peyton Bates to Kaiden Cerventes to tie the game up with 12:03 left to play in the first quarter. 

The Panthers scored five more times in the first half to give Greenville the 42-7 lead at half. 

Greenville would tack on three more scoring plays in the second half, including one field goal and two touchdowns to secure the 59-7 victory. 

As a team, the Spartans put together 224 yards of total offense. Manchester quarterback Trevor O'Brien II had 223 passing yards. Jaylan George (Atlanta, Ga., Frederick Douglass) had 71 receptions yards on the afternoon, while Kenneth Redd Jr. (Dayton, Ohio, Hillwood) totaled 48 reception yards.

Defensively, the Black and Gold were led by Jamaal Hubbard (Russelville, Ala., Russelville) with 11 total tackles and a pass breakup. Jaylen Grimes (Goulds, Fla., Christopher Columbus) added nine total tackles. Javion Davis (Marion, Ind., Marion) tallied six total tackles with two QB hurries. Yandel Victoriano (Jacksonville, Fla., Fletcher) had had an interception in the second quarter. Victoriano intercepted the ball and returned it for 23 yards.

Up next, the Spartans will travel to Mount St. Joseph to kickoff the HCAC season on Saturday, September 30. Game time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in Cincinnati, Ohio.
