DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Manchester University women's soccer team secured its first win of the season after defeating HCAC foe Defiance College by a final score of 2-1 on Wednesday, September 27.
Lexi Coward put the Yellow Jackets on the scoreboard first, scoring her fourth goal of the season in the 62nd minute to take the 1-0 lead. The Spartans would answer in the 68th minute thanks to a goal from
Grace Papazoglou (Commack, NY., Commack) off a penalty kick. First-year
Lily DeTray (Oak Harbor, Wash., Oak Harbor) scored her first collegiate goal in the 72nd minute to give the Black and Gold a one-point lead and secure the 2-1 victory and Manchester's first win of the season.
During Wednesday's match, Manchester outshot Defiance 37-11. The Spartans landed 26 shots on goal.
Papazoglou led the Spartans with 14 shots, 10 of which landed on goal.
DeTray had a career-high eight shots with five landing on goal.
Katie Witte (Auburn, Ind., DeKalb ),
Ruth Windeler (Grand Blanc, Mich., Goodrich) and
Morgan Mauk (Toledo, Ohio, E.L. Bowsher) added two more shots on goal for the Black and Gold.

Manchester improved to 1-7, 1-0 HCAC with the win on Wednesday. Up next, the Spartans will host the Pioneers of Transylvania University on Saturday, September 30 for a 1:00 p.m. meeting on Good Field.
