Manchester Swimming and Diving Competes in Tri-Match Action on Saturday

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Manchester University men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed on the road in the Illinois Tech-Tri Meet on Saturday, January 13. The Spartans competed against both Illinois Institute of Technology and North Central College. 

Both teams picked up wins against North Central, with the men defeating the Cardinals 145-19. The Spartan women defeated North Central 80-77. 

On the men's side, the men's 200-yard medley relay team posted a time of 1:43.92, good enough for a second-place finish. The relay team consisted of Colten Schulte, Jaden Chin Hong, Parker York, and Hung Tran. The 400 yard freestyle relay team consisting of Logan Davis, Payton Elsrod, Michael DeBartolo, Josh Phipps also took second with a time of 3:39.11. 

York also took second in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.80 and the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:24.53. DeBartolo swam to a second place finish in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall in a time of 2:15.27. Elsrod posted a time of 51.66 in the 100 -yard freestyle for second place. Schulte took second place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:15.07. 

The men topped North Central 145-19 in head-to-head scoring. Illinois Tech edged the Spartans 142-56. 

On the women's side, Stephanie Roman and Eamin Lynch led the way for the Spartans, earning two event wins on Saturday. Roman took first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.56 and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 58.41. Lynch posted a time of 2:10.36 for a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle. She also took first place in the 200-yard backstroke, touching the wall in a time of 2:23.78. 

The women's 400-yard medley relay team posted a time of 2:03.26 good for a second-place finish. The relay team consisted of Eamin Lynch, Taelynn Benish, Ashlynn Malloy, and Stephanie Roman. 

The women topped North Central 80-77 in the head-to-head scoring. The Scarlet Hawks of Illinois Tech topped the Spartans 110-71.

The Spartans will be back in action on January 17 as they go head-to-head with the Bluffton University Beavers before competing in the the HCAC Swimming & Diving Championships on February 14-17.
