HAUTE, IN - The Manchester University women's basketball team fell to
Rose-Hulman by a final score of 73-57 on Wednesday, January 17.
The Spartans jumped out to an 8-2 lead to begin Wednesday night's contest. Manchester held off
Rose-Hulman to maintain a lead through most of the first quarter. The Fightin' Engineers were able to answer, scoring on their final three possessions to take a 17-15 lead going into the second quarter. The Spartans and
Fightin' Engineers battled back-and-forth in the second quarter, with each team trading buckets and neither team gaining more than a three-point advantage through the first six minutes. With the score tied at 26 apiece with 2:36 on the clock,
Rose-Hulman put together an 8-0 run to take a 34-28 lead at halftime.
The
Fightin' Engineers extended their lead to 11 with just over five minutes left to play in the third quarter. The Black and Gold would answer, rallying to bring the game within four points with 3:22 on the clock.
Rose-Hulman would hang on to take a 52-43 lead entering the final quarter of action on Wednesday. Rose-Hulman came away with the 73-57 victory to improve to 8-8, 5-4 HCAC.
As a team, Manchester shot 33.3% (20-60) from the floor and hauled in 38 rebounds.
Three Spartans scored in double-digits on Wednesday night, including sophomore
Abigail Rosenkrans (Pendleton, Ind., Pendleton Heights) with her first career double-double.
Rosenkrans tallied 17 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Fellow sophomore
Maddi Smith (Kewanna, Ind., Caston) also had a double-double after netting 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Hailee Kline (Huntington, Ind., Blackhawk Christian) finished with 13 points, shooting 3-5 from three-point range.
Kline also had a team-high seven assists.
Up next, the Spartans will host Mount St. Joseph on January 20. The game is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
