Tourney Time: Manchester Hosts Franklin in HCAC Quarterfinals

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Manchester University men's basketball team will host the Franklin College Grizzlies in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Men's Basketball Tournament Quarterfinal round on Sunday, February 18.

  • Sunday, Feb. 18 -Quarterfinals 
    • #3 Hanover vs. #6 Rose-Hulman
    • #4 Manchester vs. #5 Franklin
  • Friday, Feb. 24 - Semifinals - held at Anderson University
    • Winner of #5 Franklin/#4 Manchester vs. #1 Anderson - 5:00 p.m.
    • Winner of #6 Rose Hulman/#3 Hanover vs. #2 Transylvania - 7:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, Feb. 25 - Finals - held at Anderson University  
    • Championship Game - 6:00 p.m. 
ADMISSION TO HCAC CHAMPIONSHIPS: 
  • General Admission - $10 
  • HCAC Students/Faculty/Staff with ID - Free
  • Children 11 and Under - Free 

GAME NOTES: 
  • The Spartans are seeking their first HCAC Tournament title since the 2010-11 season and second title since their three-peat from 1992-95. 
  • Manchester finished the 2023-24 regular season with an overall record of 15-10 and a 12-6 mark in conference play, earning them the no. 4 seed in this year's HCAC tournament.
  • Bryant Smith (West Lafayette, Ind., Harrison) leads the Black and Gold in scoring, averaging 21.6 points per game. Smith became the 33rd person in Manchester men's basketball history to score 1,000 career points against Rose-Hulman back on January 24. The junior guard from West Lafayette has scored 541 points this season to boost his career total to 1,154, moving him up to 20th on the Manchester All-Time Scoring list.
  • Zach Sawyer (Columbus, Ohio, Bishop Watterson) has earned 13 double-doubles this season, including a triple-double back on December 16 against Berea. The senior guard is averaging 18.8 points per game, 10.1 rebounds per game, 5.1 assists per game, and 1.6 steals per game. Sawyer currently leads the conference in rebounds, assists, and steals.
  • Franklin College junior Ryan Bostic leads the Grizzlies with 286 points this season, averaging 11.4 per game, and 39 steals. Fellow junior Lynn King leads the Grizzlies with 147 rebounds.
