WESTFIELD, Ind. - The Manchester University baseball team finished their opening weekend with a 6-3 win over Marian at the Grand Park Sports Complex on Sunday, February 25th.
The Spartans jumped out to a 4-0 lead after four innings. Senior
Harrison Pittsford (Ellettsville, Ind., Edgewood) got Manchester on the board in the top of the 2nd inning with a sacrifice fly to center, bringing in
Vian Mariani (South Bend, Ind., John Adams).
Joel Kennedy (Mooreland, Ind., Monroe Central) increased the lead with a solo home run in the 3rd.
Mariani also scored an RBI with a single in the 3rd, advancing
Austin Knowles (Nassau, Bahamas, Athens Christian (Ga.)) across home plate.
After being down 4-3 in the 8th inning,
Pittsford singled to left field, driving in
Griffin Garwood (Fishers, Ind., Mt. Vernon) to tie the score up at 4-4.
Rocco Hanes (Ossian, Ind., Norwell) then hit a sacrifice fly to center to bring in
Gavin Gleason (Brookston, Ind., Delphi Community) to take the lead.
Jackson Todor (Fort Wayne, Ind., Homestead) threw 2.0 innings of relief without allowing a hit or a run as he earned his first save of the season as the Spartans defeated the Sabres 6-3.
Up next, Tuesday's game at Huntington University is postponed. The Spartans will be back in action March 2 - 4 as they compete in five non-conference games in Myrtle Beach SC.
