HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The Manchester University baseball team was topped in non-conference action by Huntington University on Tuesday, March 12. The Black & Gold narrowly fell by a final score of 9-8 in a single, nine-inning contest.
Manchester got on the scoreboard first thanks to an RBI single by
Harrison Pittsford (Ellettsville, Ind., Edgewood) in the 1st inning. The Foresters pulled ahead 8-3 after 6 innings, but Manchester would score another run to bring them within four.
Jared Holley (Wabash, Ind., Wabash) hit a grand slam in the top of the 7th inning to tie the score up, but Huntington would score in the bottom of the 9th inning to break the tie and secure the win.
SPARTAN STATS
- Vian Mariani (South Bend, Ind., John Adams) led Manchester with a 2-3 performance at the plate. Mariani finished the day with an RBI and two walks.
- Joel Kennedy (Mooreland, Ind., Monroe Central) added a pair of extra-base hits for the Black and Gold. As a team, the Spartans collected 12 hits in Tuesday's game.
- Brett Wathen (Ossian, Ind., Norwell) got the start on the mound, scattering five hits through 3.2 innings.
- Arturo Casas (Pendleton, Ind., Pendleton Heights) struck out two batters in 1.1 innings of relief.
UP NEXT
- Spartans will travel to Berea, Ky. for a three-game series against the Berea Mountaineers on March 16 and March 17.
- First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
- Sunday's game is scheduled to start at noon.
