NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind.- The Manchester baseball team traveled to Wabash College for a two-game out of conference, series against the Little Giants on April 21.
The Spartans split with Wabash, winning game one 11-6 and losing game two 6-1. This improves the Spartans record to 12-20 on the season
GAME 1: Manchester 11, Wabash 6
- Manchester got things started in the top of the 2nd when Clay Pickett (Fort Wayne, Ind., Blackhawk Christian) was hit by a pitch, this drove in one run. This was followed with two RBI walks which the Black and Gold up 3-0.
- Later in the 3rd, Wabash was able to put up five runs on the Spartans bringing the game to 5-3 Wabash.
- In the 4th Mitchell Baker (Plainfield, Ind., Plainfield) reached base on a fielders choice which brought in Eli Miller (Fishers, Ind., Hamilton Southeastern) to make the game 5-4, however Wabash came right back and scored in the bottom of the 4th.
- Then in the 5th, the Spartans got things rolling. Pickett knocked in a 2 RBI double, soon after Miller found his way back touching home plate, as well as Pickett, bringing the score to 9-6 Spartans.
- The Spartans were able to score two unearned runs in the 6th and were able to hold of Wabash in Game 1 to a 11-6 win.
- The Spartans finished with seven hits as Jackson Todor (Fort Wayne, Ind., Homestead) (2-3) picked up his second win of the year.
Game 2: Manchester 1, Wabash 6
- The Spartans yet again got things going first when Gavin Gleason (Brookston, Ind., Delphi Community) hit a Sacrifice Fly to center field, bringing in Mitchell Baker to put the Spartans up 1-0.
- However, this would be the only run the Spartans obtained in Game 2. Manchester finished with six hits including a Gleason double.
- The Spartans fell this game 6-1 and split the series with Wabash.
