Richmond, Ind.- The Manchester Softball team traveled to Richmond, Ind. to take on the Earlham Quakers in a HCAC Doubleheader on Saturday April 27th.
The Spartans split with the Quakers winning Game one 7-2 and losing Game two 2-3 in 9 innings.Â
Game 1: Manchester 7, Earlham 2
- The Spartans got things started early scoring two in the first off the bats of Sabrina Leonard (Fillmore, Ind., South Putnam)Â and Kaitlyn Carr (Valparaiso, Ind., Chesterton).Â
- In the 2nd, Kendal Rider (Otterbein, Ind., Lafayette Central Catholic) slammed a triple into left field bringing in a run and would go on to score with the help of an Izzy Dittmar (Warsaw, Ind., Warsaw Community) groundout.
- Earlham would hit a two run homerun in the third to get on the board to make the game 4-2 Spartans.
- The Spartans offense stayed hot into the 7th when Crystal Cooke (Richmond, Ky., Madison Southern) reached base on a throwing error that would lead to a Leonard run, followed by a two run double to center field from Alee Eaker (Lowell, Ind., Lowell) the Spartans finished the game on top 7-2.
- The Spartans combined for 12 hits in Game one with Kaitlyn Carr receiving her 7th pitching win of the year.
Game 2: Manchester 2, Earlham 3 (9 Innings)
- A slow start for both teams, Manchester gets on the board first thanks to a RBI double from Riley Leverington (Indianapolis, Ind., Decatur Central) in the 4th inning.
- It took three more innings but in the bottom of the 7th, Earlham got on the board to tie it up 1-1 and send the game to extra innings.
- Manchester came out ready in the 8th, Kendal Rider brought in Molly Gilhooly (Mount Prospect, Ill., Prospect) to score off of a single and make the game 2-1.
- Earlham tied it back up and would go on to win the game in the bottom of the 9th, 2-3.Â
