Spartans Soccer Draw in High Scoring Matchup With Wittenberg

Springfield, OH - The Spartans Men's Soccer Team traveled to Springfield, Ohio to take on the Wittenberg University Tigers on September 4 in a non-conference match up. The Spartans ended the game in a draw, tied 3-3.

The Tigers got things started with a goal in the 6th minute putting Wittenberg up 1-0. Not long after in the 20th minute,Andy Ignatovich (Ceresco, MIch., Lakeview) struck first for the Spartans scoring an unassisted goal bringing the Spartans neck and neck with the Tigers. After a Devon Allen (Argos, Ind., Argos) yellow card and a handful of saves from goalkeeper Aaron Ketchmark (Kouts, Ind., Kouts), The Spartans ended the first half tied at 1-1. 

In the second half play ramped up a bit from both teams with Wittenberg striking first in the 52nd minute to put the tigers up 2-1. In the 66th minute, Brody Borries (Columbia City, Ind., Columbia City) committed a foul inside the box resulting in a yellow card and a penalty kick goal for the Tigers. However merely seconds later the Spartans came back and Kole Williams (Lafayette, Ind., McCutcheon) scored a goal assisted by Ean Jones (Lancaster, TX, Red Oak) to bring the Spartans back within one. In the 80th minute, Manchester would net another this time coming from Devon Allen and the assist by Andy Ignatovich. The Spartans held on to finish this matchup in a 3-3 draw, tallying 7 total shots and 6 saves.
