Box Score Westminster, MO - The Manchester Spartan Football team traveled to Missouri for their first match up of the season.

The Spartans fell in the contest 3-23 after a defensive matchup between the two sides. 

Manchester 3, Westminster 23

Westminster struck early in the first quarter, as Westminster's quarterback capped off a 4-play, 56-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run at the 9:40 mark. The extra point was good, putting the Blue Jays ahead 7-0. Just minutes later, the defense, forced a safety at 07:09, extending their lead to 9-0. 

The Spartans were able to get their first points of the year in the second quarter with a 14-play, 59-yard drive, resulting in an 11-yard field goal by Diego Moguel (Frankfort, Ind.) at 13:11. That was the last time Manchester would score in the contest.

Westminster would go on to score two more rushing touchdowns with their quarterback to win the game 23-3.

Manchester's Albert Wadlington (Evansville, Ind., Harrison) led the way for the Spartans with 56 yards and Je'Kwan Williams (Marion, Ind., Marion) ended the day with six tackles and two sacks for the defense.

The Spartans look to bounce back as they travel to Chicago to take on Concordia University Chicago on Saturday Sep.14.
