North Manchester, Ind. - Manchester University men's soccer earned a well-rounded 2–0 victory over Berea College on Saturday afternoon at Good Field, using a steady first-half breakthrough and a resilient defensive effort to collect an important conference win. The result improved the Spartans to 3–5–4 overall and 2–1–1 in conference play.
From the opening whistle, Manchester looked composed in possession and patient in the attack. Their persistence paid off in the 36th minute when
Alan Galvez capitalized on a setup from
Grant Gerber, giving the Spartans a 1–0 lead heading into halftime. The home side continued that momentum into the second half as
Edwin Rodriguez doubled the advantage in the 52nd minute, finishing a crisp pass from Galvez to make it 2–0. The Spartans balanced that offensive efficiency with a strong showing defensively. Goalkeeper
Will Martin was sharp all afternoon, making
eight saves to preserve the shutout. Behind him, defenders
Cole Spagna,
Dana Lewis, and
Brodie Borries anchored a back line that absorbed pressure effectively and cleared out dangerous chances as Berea pressed forward late.
Manchester finished with
eight total shots—six of them on goal—and made the most of their opportunities. Though the match grew physical in the second half, the Spartans maintained their focus and discipline to see out the result. With the win, Manchester notched its second conference victory of the season and continued to build momentum heading deeper into league play. The Spartans will look to carry their defensive form and offensive rhythm into their next outing as they push toward the heart of their HCAC schedule.
