North Manchester, Ind. - Manchester University men's soccer endured a tough afternoon at Good Field, falling 5–0 to Transylvania University in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play.
Transylvania struck early and often, jumping ahead just 2:38 into the match on a goal from McKay Wheatley. Less than ten minutes later, Dylan Barnes doubled the Pioneers' advantage at the 12:42 mark. Manchester goalkeeper
Will Martin faced relentless pressure throughout the first half, recording
seven saves to keep the Spartans within reach despite being outshot 13–1 in the opening 45 minutes. Manchester's lone first-half shot came from
Kole Williams, whose effort in the 7th minute was saved by Transylvania.
The visitors extended their lead shortly after halftime as Barnes tallied his second goal just a minute into the half. Transylvania continued to capitalize on their chances with two more goals from
Gus Dickman in the 52nd and 53rd minutes, including one assisted by Wheatley. Despite the scoreline, Martin continued his strong effort in goal, adding two more saves in the second period to finish with
nine total stops on 19 shots faced.
The Spartans' attack found limited openings against a compact Transylvania defense.
Williams and
Ean Jones were the most active forwards, each registering a shot on goal, while
Edwin Rodriguez added another attempt just wide of frame. Manchester's defensive unit, anchored by
Aiden Bryant,
Cole Spagna, and
Nick Merrion, logged heavy minutes against one of the conference's top attacking teams.
