North Manchester, Ind. - The Manchester University Softball team hosted the Transylvania Pioneers in a Saturday Doubleheader this past weekend.

The Spartans kept it close but eventually would fall both games 4-6 and 4-6.

Game One Manchester 4, Transy 6

The Spartans effort to come back from down five runs in the sixth inning came up just short, as they fell 6-4 to Transylvania University on Saturday. Manchester University closed the gap by scoring on a ground out, a single, and a single.

Transylvania University got on the board in the top of the first inning after a single down the left field line.

A sacrifice bunt by Transylvania University extended the lead to 3-0 in the top of the second inning.

Lizzy Willis (Yorktown, Ind., Yorktown) took the mound for Manchester University. The starter went seven innings, surrendering six runs (five earned) on 11 hits, striking out four and walking three.

Kaitlyn Carr (Valparaiso, Ind., Chesterton) and Molly Gilhooly (Mount Prospect, Ill., Prospect) each collected two hits for Manchester University. Erin Singleton (Brownstown, Ind., Brownstown Central), Lexi Goodman (Poplar, Ill., North Boone), and Crystal Cooke (Richmond, Ky., Madison Southern) each drove in one run for Manchester University. Manchester University turned one double play in the game.

Game Two Manchester 4, Transy 6

Transylvania University got on the board in the top of the first inning after stealing home, A single to right field, and a ground out, each scoring one run.

Julianne Gosnell (Amboy, Ind., Oak Hill) took the mound for Manchester University. The starter went seven innings, giving up six runs on 10 hits, striking out seven and walking one. 

Kendal Rider (Otterbein, Ind., Lafayette Central Catholic) led Manchester University with two runs batted in. The outfielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Erin Singleton , Lizzy Willis, and Rider each collected two hits for Manchester University.
