North Manchester, Ind. - The Manchester University Softball team was able to host the Mount St. Joseph Lions after a few reschedules this past Friday.
The Spartans fell late in Game One but were able to bounce back and get the shut out win in Game Two.
Game One Manchester 2, MSJ 9
Mount St. Joseph University opened the scoring in the first after a single scored one. The Spartans jumped into the lead in the bottom of the second inning after
Kendal Rider (Otterbein, Ind., Lafayette Central Catholic) singled down the left field line, and Molly
Molly Gilhooly (Mount Prospect, Ill., Prospect) scored after tagging up, each scoring one run.
Mount St. Joseph University tied the game at two in the top of the fifth after a SAC fly.
Mount St. Joseph University flipped the game on its head in the top of the seventh, scoring seven runs on seven hits to take the lead, 9-2. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by #22 that drove in two.
Lizzy Willis (Yorktown, Ind., Yorktown) took the circle for Manchester University. The hurler went six innings, surrendering six runs on 11 hits, striking out three and walking two.
Willis and Rider were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Manchester University.
Erin Singleton (Brownstown, Ind., Brownstown Central) went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Manchester University in hits.
Game Two Manchester 3, MSJ 0
Both teams were strong in the circle on Friday, but the Spartans prevailed, defeating Mount St. Joseph University 3-0.
The bottom of the lineup was strong for Manchester University.
Molly Gilhooly,
Sabrina Leonard (Fillmore, Ind., South Putnam), and
Lexi Goodman (Poplar, Ill., North Boone) combined for six of the team's nine hits in their victory. They scored two runs and drove in one.
Manchester University were the first to get on the board in the second when Gillhooly singled, scoring one run.
Kaitlyn Carr (Valparaiso, Ind., Chesterton) pitched five and one-third innings in relief for Manchester University. The hurler allowed three hits and zero runs while, striking out none and walking none.
Julianne Gosnell (Amboy, Ind., Oak Hill) stepped in the circle first for Manchester University. The starter gave up three hits and zero runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking one.Â
Gillhooly led the Spartans with one run batted in. The third baseman went 2-for-3 on the day. Gillhooly, Leonard, and Goodman each collected two hits for Manchester University. The Spartans didn't commit a single error in the field. Gillhooly had the most chances in the field with four.
