Spartan Bats Light Up Parkview Field in Win over Trine

Fort Wayne, Ind. - The Manchester University Baseball team traveled to Fort Wayne for a night game against the Trine Thunder hosted at Parkview Field.

The Spartan offense was hot, putting up 14 runs on 20 hits at the field that hosts MLB San Diego Padres affiliate, the Fort Wayne TinCaps. Four Different Spartans finished the game with three or more hits and Brett Wathen (Ossian, Ind., Norwell) picked up the win after going perfect over 2.0 innings on the mound.

Max Horner (Goshen, Ind., Northridge) collected three hits in five at bats, as the Spartans defeated Trine 14-6 on Tuesday. Horner doubled in the seventh inning, doubled in the ninth inning, and singled in the fourth inning.

Manchester jumped out to the lead in the top of the third inning after Rocco Hanes (Ossian, Ind., Norwell) doubled, scoring two runs, Alex Westfield (Rockledge, FL, Viera) doubled, scoring one run, and Vian Mariani (South Bend, Ind., John Adams) singled, scoring one run.

Arturo Casas (Pendleton, Ind., Pendleton Heights) started on the hill for the Black & Gold. The southpaw surrendered one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking none. Jackson Todor (Fort Wayne, Ind., Homestead), Brett Wathen, and Jack Ehrgott (Carmel, Ind., Carmel) each threw scoreless innings for the Spartans in relief.

Manchester tallied 20 hits in the game. Michael Dierckman (Fort Wayne, Ind., Carroll), the number nine hitter, led Spartans with four hits in six at bats. Horner, Hanes, and Mariani each collected multiple hits for MU. Gavin Gleason (Brookston, Ind., Delphi Community) and Donavin Massing (Fort Wayne, Ind,, Leo) led the team with two bases on balls each, and Manchester turned two double plays in the game.
