Softball Splits in Terre Haute

Terre Haute, Ind. - The Manchester University Softball team traveled down to Rose-Hulman for a Saturday double header this past weekend.

The Spartans fell in game one but bounced back with a dominant pitching performance in game two to split the series. 

Game One Manchester 2, Rose 6

Rose-Hulman got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after a home run to center field, and a double to center field, each scoring one run.

Alee Eaker (Lowell, Ind., Lowell) singled to center field, which helped Manchester University tie the game at two in the top of the fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth, Rose-Hulman broke up the tie extending the lead to 4-2.

Julianne Gosnell (Amboy, Ind., Oak Hill) took the loss for Manchester University. The hurler went six innings, giving up six runs on 12 hits, striking out two and walking one.

Sabrina Leonard (Fillmore, Ind., South Putnam), Crystal Cooke (Richmond, Ky., Madison Southern), Eaker, and Kendal Rider (Otterbein, Ind., Lafayette Central Catholic) each collected one hit for Manchester University. Erin Singleton (Brownstown, Ind., Brownstown Central) and Eaker each drove in one run for Manchester University. Manchester University were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Lizzy Willis (Yorktown, Ind., Yorktown) had the most chances in the field with four.


Game Two Manchester 2, Rose 0

Both teams were strong in the circle on Saturday, but Manchester University defeated Rose-Hulman 2-0.Kaitlyn Carr (Valparaiso, Ind., Chesterton) started the game for Manchester University and recorded 21 outs.

Manchester opened the scoring in the top of the second thanks to two singles. The Spartans first got on the board when Carr singled, scoring one run.

Carr earned the win for Manchester University. The hurler gave up three hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out one and walking one. 

Carr and Molly Gilhooly (Mount Prospect, Ill., Prospect) were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Manchester University. Sabrina Leonard led Manchester University with two hits in two at bats.
