North Manchester, Ind. - Manchester opened the 2025 season with a hard-fought 0–0 draw against Great Lake Christian on Friday afternoon at Spartan Stadium.
The Spartans controlled much of the first half, creating several chances through Alan Galvez, Nick Merrion, and Kole Williams, but were unable to find the finishing touch. Chris Wilson came closest before halftime with a driven effort that forced a save from the GLC goalkeeper.
Defensively, Manchester looked sharp throughout. Center backs Cole Spagna and Edwin Rodriguez anchored a disciplined back line, while goalkeeper Will Martin was strong—recording four saves and keeping a clean sheet in his first start in goal. His discipline in the 34th and 56th minutes denied GLC's best opportunities.
The second half saw both sides exchange chances. Grant Gerber struck the woodwork just after halftime, and Manchester earned multiple corners but couldn't convert. As the game wore on, substitutions brought fresh energy, with Hayden Ettner and Christian Munos pushing forward, but GLC's defense held firm.
Despite the stalemate, the Spartans can take positives from their defensive solidity, depth off the bench, and Martin's commanding performance in goal. With more sharpness in the attacking third, Manchester will look to turn these chances into goals as the season progresses.
Manchester returns to the pitch on Sunday, August 31 as they travel to Wabash to take on the Little Giants, 1:00 PM start.
