Lexington, KY - Manchester Men's Basketball put together one of its sharpest offensive outings of the season Saturday, but a big first half and a steady stream of free throws helped Transylvania hold on for a 100-88 HCAC win at the Clive M. Beck Center in Lexington.
The Spartans came out firing, scoring 47 first-half points and knocking down six 3-pointers before the break to stay within striking distance at halftime, 54-47.
Ty Lynas paced Manchester all afternoon, finishing with 30 points on 9-of-21 shooting while going 11-for-12 at the free-throw line, and he added five assists and four rebounds.
Clay McCorkle gave Manchester another strong backcourt punch with 20 points, hitting 3-of-5 from deep and dishing four assists, while
Max Robertson chipped in nine points and two steals.
Manchester continued to answer in the second half, scoring 41 points and shooting 4-of-13 from three, including key makes from
Ladarius Wallace (7 points, two 3s) and
Kaleb Green (7 points, two 3s). The Spartans were efficient all day—10-of-24 from beyond the arc and 20-of-24 at the line—while committing just three turnovers as a team.
Ultimately, Transylvania's rebounding and trips to the stripe proved decisive. The Pioneers held a 48-32 edge on the glass (16 offensive rebounds) and went 34-of-41 at the free-throw line to keep Manchester from making a late push. Lynas and McCorkle combined for 50 points to lead the Spartans, and Manchester got 22 points from its bench, but Transylvania had four players in double figures and closed out the win at the line.
