NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. — Manchester defeated Rochester Christian 1-0 on Wednesday at Spartan Stadium.
Quentin Taylor scored off an
Ethan Upton assist at 87:22, moving Manchester from a scoreless tie to the only goal of the match. Manchester finished with a 7-3 shot advantage and held Rochester Christian without a second-half shot while recording the shutout.
Manchester kept Rochester Christian off the board through an early push, with
Will Martin saving Andres Lozano's shot after two Rochester Christian corners in the opening six minutes. Manchester answered with first-half attempts from
Jack Barnes,
Fola Afolayan and
Zane Parson, but neither side scored before halftime.
The breakthrough came late in the second half when Taylor scored off Upton's assist at 87:22, moving the score to 1-0. Earlier, Manchester generated second-half shots from
Noah Junchaya and
Quinn McKinley while playing through a physical stretch that included a team red card in the 77th minute. The match ended with Manchester winning 1-0.
Taylor scored Manchester's goal, put his lone shot on goal and recorded the game-winning goal. Upton tallied the assist for his point. Martin played all 90 minutes in goal, made one save and finished with a shutout. Junchaya led Manchester with two shots.
Manchester moves to 2-4-0 overall.
