MU claims third win in a row

BLUFFTON, OHIO – A second half goal and more strong goalkeeping helped lead Manchester University to a 1-0 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win Tuesday, Oct. 16.

Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Willmann (Montpelier, Ind.) registered her eight shutout of the season and third in a row to battle through a 22-9 shots advantage for the host Beavers. Willmann registered 14 saves, tying the second-best individual effort of her collegiate career, as part of her 13th career shutout.

Sophomore forward Katelyn Barta (Griffith, Ind.) broke up a scoreless tie in the 61st minute. She took a pass from freshman forward Brandy Crouse (Cleves, Ohio) and rattled home a shot into Bluffton's net. Barta's team-best sixth goal was her fourth game-winning score of the season, marking the most for a Black and Gold player in a year since 2008.

Manchester (7-5-3 overall, 3-2-1 HCAC) puts its three-match win streak on the line with a key late-season trip to league-leading Earlham Saturday, Oct. 20. Kickoff is 1 p.m.

NOTE – MU's current win skein matches a three-match roll it went on from Sept. 16-22. … The eight shutouts compiled is the most for a Spartan team since 2003 when Manchester recorded 11.
