Spartans, Franklin play to scoreless draw

Box Score

The Spartans, gaining their third tie of the season in the 0-0, double-overtime finish, were dead even in shots with the visiting Grizzlies at 16 each. MU had only one more foul whistled on them then the visitors (13-12), and both goalkeepers kept clean sheets throughout the 110-minute span. Both teams had chances to break through on the scoreboard at Spartan Field, too.

Black and Gold sophomore net minder Emily Willmann (Montpelier, Ind.) picked up her fifth shutout of the season and 10th of her career with two saves. Her second rescue cut down a Franklin one-on-one attempt in the box early in the second half. Franklin keeper Christa Hendrickson was just as tough on the Spartans' offense with five saves which included a pair against shots in the box down the stretch in regulation.

MU's offense was guided by the trio of sophomore midfielder Sofie Tzortzinis (Ann Arbor, Mich.), junior midfielder Laura Jenkins (Sellersburg, Ind.) and freshman forward Bridgette Rowe (La Quinta, Calif.). They each finished with three shot attempts.

The Spartans continue HCAC play Saturday, Oct. 6, with a trip to Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. Match time is 3 p.m.
