Box Score NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – A nifty give-and-go play between sophomore midfielder Katelyn Barta (Griffith, Ind.) and freshman forward Brandy Crouse (Cleves, Ohio) proved to be the difference for Manchester University in a Senior Day 2012 win Saturday, Oct. 27.
With just over eight minutes remaining in regulation, Barta took a long pass down the right side, beating her Rose-Hulman defender to the edge of the box. She found Crouse going down the middle of the field after having slipped past her defender. Crouse took the pass and sent it into the left side of the Fightin' Engineers' goal.
Manchester University sophomore goalkeeper Emily Willmann (Montpelier, Ind.) and the Black and Gold defense were pushed by Rose-Hulman until the clock ran out. However, Willmann and her teammates stood strong to record the Spartans' 10th shutout of the year.
MU out-shot their guests 12-9 with Barta and Crouse each having two attempts. Willmann, gaining her 15th career shutout, ended with three saves.
The Black and Gold, improving to 9-6-3 overall and 5-3-1 in league play, now prepare for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference semifinal at Earlham Tuesday, Oct. 30. Earlham picked up a 3-0 win in the two sides' first meeting last weekend.
