Box Score BLUFFTON, OHIO – A balanced scoring attack for Manchester University wasn't enough to overcome a red-hot shooting Bluffton University squad Wednesday, Jan. 16.
Coach Brad Nadborne's team put senior forward David House (Elkhart, Ind.), sophomore forwards Silas Sims (Hope, Ind.) and Jon Thompson (Rushville, Ind.) and sophomore guard Greg Flores (Hammond, Ind.) into double digits. Sims led the quartet with 13 points to go with a steal and blocked shot, while House, leading the team in rebounding with six boards, and Thompson ended with 11 points each, and Flores, a perfect four-for-four from the field, finished with 10.
MU (4-12, 1-8 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) tried to keep pace with their hosts (7-9, 3-6 HCAC) early, hitting 55 percent from the field in the first half. The Spartans led 5-4 at the 17:24 mark but a 16-4 run by the Beavers from that point gave them a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Bluffton continued to build on the advantage en route to the 92-61 win.
The Beavers hit 10 three-pointers and a robust 55.6 percent from the field. The hosts ended the game with four players going into scoring double figures.
Manchester University begins the second half of the HCAC schedule with a trip to Mt. St. Joseph Saturday, Jan. 19. Tipoff inside the Harrelson Center on MSJ's campus is 5 p.m.
NOTES: House extended his current stretch of double-figure scoring games to five. He also registered his seventh straight multiple-rebound game. … Thompson's double-digit scoring effort was his third in a row, while Flores compiled his 11th and Sims went for his ninth of the year.
