Box Score CINCINNATI, OHIO – Manchester University coach Brad Nadborne saw more balanced scoring from his Spartans, but it couldn't overcome a hot-shooting Mt. St. Joseph squad Saturday, Jan. 19.
The Black and Gold, falling to 4-13 overall and 1-9 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, placed three individuals in double figures in the 82-68 loss inside MSJ's Harrelson Center. Sophomore forward Silas Sims (Hope, Ind.) compiled a personal single-game season high and team-best 20 points, pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and picked up one of the Spartans' two steals. Sophomore forward Jon Thompson (Rushville, Ind.) added 17 points off the bench for his fourth straight double-figure scoring game, while senior forward David House (Elkhart, Ind.) continued his recent hot streak with 15 points.
MSJ, moving to 6-11 overall and 5-5 in league play, scored 13 of the game's first 14 points for a fast start. MU managed to whittle the deficit down to as little as six (22-16) with over 7:30 to go in the first half before the host Lions took off on a 16-3 run en route to a 47-29 halftime lead.
The Spartans resume league play with a trip to Rose-Hulman Thursday, Jan. 24. Tipoff time inside Hulbert Arena in Terre Haute is 7:30 p.m.
NOTES: House reeled off his sixth straight double-figure scoring game. … The month of January has been good to the senior forward. He's averaging 16 points and better than seven rebounds in the last six games and has the second-most assists on the team (10). ... Thompson has seen similar success over the last four contests, averaging 13.3 points per game and hitting 50 percent from the field.
