Box Score

DEFIANCE, OHIO – Manchester University senior forward David House (Elkhart, Ind.) narrowly missed his third consecutive double-double, but it wasn't enough as Defiance College put four players in double figures and hit 11 three-pointers en route to a 72-54 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win Wednesday, Jan. 9.

House scored a team-high 16 points on seven-of-13 shooting, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out two assists for Coach Brad Nadborne's squad. Sophomore forward Jon Thompson (Rushville, Ind.) was next on the scoring chart for the Spartans with 11 points.

Defiance, improving to 8-6 overall and 4-3 in the league, had to weather an early storm from MU (4-10, 1-6 HCAC). The Black and Gold jumped out to a 12-9 lead and held an edge all the way to the 7:48 mark of the first half. The home side, from that point, went on an 18-2 run to close the half and continued along in the second frame, holding as large as a 20-point lead. The Spartans close to within 11 with seven minutes to go but couldn't get any closer.

Manchester continues conference play with a 3 p.m. home game against Franklin Sunday, Jan. 13, inside Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.

NOTES: House's scoring and rebounding averages continue to jump in the wake of his recent three-game roll. He's moved from 5.9 to 8.3 points per game and 4.9 to 5.6 boards per game in the span. The senior also has 13 multiple-rebound games to his credit this season which includes a current stretch of five in a row. … Sophomore forward Silas Sims (Hope, Ind.) garnered his 12th total and fifth straight multiple-rebound contest with his eight boards.
