DANVILLE, KY. – Junior pitcher Ashlea Nash (Gas City, Ind.) fired a complete-game win in game two, leading Manchester University in its 2014 season opener Saturday, March 1.

Nash, leveling her season record at 1-1, threw seven frames of five-hit ball against the Praying Colonels as part of a 4-2 victory. She also struck out two.

Trailing 2-0 after three innings, Manchester University's offense reeled off a four-run fourth. The quartet of senior Janikka Tillotson (Brownsburg, Ind.), freshman Emilee Liston (Cicero, Ind.) and Chloe Hensley (South Bend, Ind.) and sophomore Kaile Niezgodski (South Bend, Ind.) each registered RBI hits in a five-hit rally. Centre put two runners aboard in the fifth and one in the seventh but couldn't cross home plate in either frame.

MU opened the day with a 9-2 loss to Spaulding University. The visitors pieced together six runs over the fifth and sixth innings to ensure the decision.

Nash, as part of an afternoon in which she compiled four hits for the Spartan offense, and Niezgodski each contributed two hits against Spaulding. Niezgodski's hits were both doubles.

MU's regularly-schedule twinbill with Centre and Spaulding, set for Sunday, March 2, was cancelled due to inclement weather. The Spartans are scheduled to return to action Saturday, March 8, at Hope College of Michigan.
