Box Score 4 Manchester University looked to end their 2015 Florida spring break trip on a high note going into their final two Sunshine State contests Friday, March 20. The Spartans, standing 3-5 going into contests with Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes UW-Superior and UW-Platteville, had reeled off successive wins over Alfred State College of New York, the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth and UW-Platteville at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers.
With statistics available for seven of the previous eight games, MU's offense was led by the quartet of junior infielder Jessica Chorak (Hammond, Ind.), junior utility player Kaile Niezgodski (South Bend, Ind.), senior shortstop Emily Willmann (Montpelier, Ind.) and junior outfielder Ashley Stahl (Wheatland, Ind.). Chorak was hitting at a sizzling .526 rate with 10 hits in 19 at-bats, while Niezgodski was also above .400 (.412) with a triple, home run and seven RBIs included. Stahl's .389 average included a pair of doubles, while Willmann had turned in a .381 average with five doubles and was one of two Black and Gold players to go four-for-four in stolen bases, joining freshman outfielder Mikayla Deisler (Goshen, Ind.) in the feat. On the mound, sophomore Anna Schillinger (Fort Wayne, Ind.) sported a 3.50 earned run average with a win and nine strikeouts over three complete games, while senior Ashlea Nash (Gas City, Ind.) stood 1-1 with a 4.54 ERA, a complete game shutout and 10 strikeouts to her credit in three appearances and two starts.
The Spartans, after wrapping up their Florida trip games, continue non-conference play with a doubleheader at Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association member Olivet College Thursday, March 26.
