Box Score 2 FRANKLIN, IND. – An offensive attack led by the trio of freshman second baseman Laurren Ladwig (Crown Point, Ind.), junior catcher MacKenzie Williams (Kendallville, Ind.) and freshman designated player Mallorie Jennings (Bourbon, Ind.) highlighted a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday, April 11.
Ladwig produced four hits in six at-bats including a triple and run-batted-in; Williams homered twice among three hits, two runs scored and two RBIs; and Jennings drilled a double and triple as part of a three-hit, one-run scored afternoon. The Spartans' five-extra base hit day wasn't enough to match their hosts, though, as Franklin College (15-9 overall, 4-4 HCAC) battered MU's pitching staff to the tune of 20 runs and 10 extra base hits as part of an 11-4, 9-1 sweep at Behrens Field.
The Black and Gold (9-10 overall, 4-4 HCAC) continue conference action Wednesday, April 15, at Defiance College. First pitch is 3:30 p.m.
NOTES: Ladwig's totals helped her team-leading batting average to a season-high .419 … Jennings increased a modest on-base streak to eight straight games … The HCAC standings remained a logjam after weekend play. MU is one of four squads sitting at .500, while Anderson University and Transylvania University are tied for first at 5-1, and Bluffton University is in second at 6-2.
