Smith turns in big day in net, leads way at Wilmington

Box Score

WILMINGTON, OHIO – A sophomore combination of defender Maggie Carpenter (Connersville, Ind.) and midfielder Kelsey Ropp (Freeland, Mich.) produced each of Manchester University's four shot attempts Saturday, Sept. 26.

Carpenter fired three at the host Wilmington College Quaker defense with two turned away for saves, while Ropp's lone attempt was also knocked away. On the other end of Townsend Field inside Williams Stadium, freshman goalkeeper Caroline Smith (Mason, Ohio) was closing a strong week in net with 14 saves in the face of a 26-4 shots disadvantage with just one slipping by in the 71st minute for a 1-0 WC decision.

The Black and Gold (2-5) return to Spartan Soccer Field Tuesday, Sept. 29, to conclude their non-conference schedule. Wittenberg University visits for a 3 p.m. kickoff.

NOTE: Smith's two-match totals against the Quakers and Huntington University featured 20 saves, a 90.9 save percentage and a miserly 1.00 goals-against average.
