Spartans take perennial power to wire

Box Score

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – The tandem of senior guard Jenifer Lee (Rockville, Ind.) and sophomore forward/center Maddy Minehart (Auburn, Ind.) paced Manchester University Tuesday, Nov. 22.

Lee dropped in 13 points, her eighth career double-figure scoring contest and a personal single-game best, on five-of-12 shooting from the field and a perfect two-for-two effort at the free throw line. Her second successive double-digit points' effort also added a pair of assists and rebounds to the Spartans' totals at Van Noord Arena. Minehart came off the bench for a 10-point night against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Calvin College on four-of-five field goal shooting and a similar outcome at the charity stripe as Lee.

Their evenings helped the Spartans (0-3) give the perennial NCAA Division III power Knights all they could handle on their home floor. Coach Josh Dzurick's squad held as large as a three-point edge in the first half and kept it as close as one point into the final period before Calvin raced off on a 9-2 stretch to open the margin in route to a 63-50 final.

Other top numbers for the Black and Gold came from sophomore guard Faith-Alexis Graham (Indianapolis, Ind.) with four rebounds and three steals and junior forward Samantha Bolen (Greenwood, Ind.) who blocked a Calvin shot attempt. MU continues a current run of five straight road games Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 26 and 27, at the North Park University Thanksgiving Classic.
